For the past so many months India has witnessed a spate of
corruption scandals and scams only to make our country a not-so-safe country
for the investors who have become wary of investing in India.
Regrettably, India which was once viewed as one of the best
investment destinations in the world has sadly been rated down by the global
ratings agencies due to corruption, lack of governance, regulatory hurdles,
rupee depreciation, inflation and the twin deficits -fiscal deficit and current
account deficit.
One of the prime reasons being - corruption as stated above;
has contributed significantly to the overall impact India has had globally.
Corruption as they say, is systemic and not opportunistic. As a concerned
citizen of this country It saddens me to be part of a nation where the
taxpayers money is not being wisely and effectively utilized or rather I should
put it this way, a part of salary people earn through hard work is wasted for
no reason. But it makes me equally happy to say that India is home to some of
the finest minds on earth capable of elevating our country's status to a much
higher level. There are numerous examples and thinking about it makes me feel
proud.
There's one pertinent issue which I feel is far more serious
than the economic and political crisis our country is facing i.e. the crisis of
confidence.
For all the problems we are aware of, the biggest problem is
that we lack confidence. Our concern is valid.
The questions lingering in our heads is with reference to
the money we pay as tax to the government.. are they properly used? Does it
serve the required purpose of setting up infrastructure projects? Does it
benefit the needy? Are the projects being rightly implemented? Are they
finished on time?
These questions have still not been answered!
I do come across articles which say many projects are stuck
for want of clearances. It reflects indecisiveness on the government's part.
Yet we end up paying more tax to the government because we are bound by certain
rules and regulations and flouting them is no sensible thing and goes totally
against the law.
India has done considerably well in sectors like IT, pharmaceuticals
etc. by consistently focusing on fostering innovation and creativity which are
the essential drivers of change. Appreciated!
What about the system of governance as a whole?
I fail to understand
why these politicians and seasoned bureaucrats make false promises when they
lack the will to deliver on them.
There's no dearth of talent in our country and I am glad
there are plethora of opportunities for youngsters like us wanting to
relentlessly pursue our careers in a way that benefit us and the society as a
whole.
Realizing our potential and working hard towards the
betterment of society and country as a whole would only make the nation
competitive and strengthen its presence globally.
I wish to see India as a nation where people realize their
dreams and make this country a proud country producing huge talents and not
scamsters and corrupt officials.
